So we’ve finally done it, we’ve managed to buy a campervan and it’s peeerfect!
We were able to find an almost identical one to our campervan from New Zealand! A Toyota HiAce High Top, named by the kids as ‘Shredder’!
it’s small and compact making it easy to drive, park and get around nooks and crannies. But also big enough, with two double beds to fit us and the kids.
So that’s it, were ready to travel again, all be it domestically for a while. The only question now is, for how long…

ToggleShould we stay or should we go…
We’ve always been travellers. But over the years we’ve always slotted it in to our already existing lifestyle, like a lot of people do.
Even when we went off on our Round The World Trip we still had the intention of it being a ‘gap 2 years’ and then slotting back into our ‘normal’ life styles once completed.
But the past year and more, during the coronavirus pandemic, has made us re-adjust our thinking. We’re not sure if we ever want to go back to ‘normal’.
So is this it? Are we travelling forever now? No more going back to our normal lives?
For over a year we’ve been in the UK pretty stuck and pondering what direction to take our lives. On one hand it seems an easy decision.
There are so many pros of travelling and world schooling for both us as a family unit and for our kids enrichment.
But we won’t lie and there are also cons.
And we’ve now had some news, which is going to make our decision even more difficult.
Opportunity knocks, but which is loudest?
Our kids have been accepted into a pretty good school in Liverpool (depending on what you view as good of course!).
Anyone who has kids in the south Liverpool area will know just how oversubscribed the area is for high schools and how hard it is to get into a school of your choice.
And whilst home schooling and indeed world schooling has so many benefits there are some challenges that come with it.
We’ve said it many times before and we’ll say it again, the biggest challenge and worry we’ve always had with travelling for long periods is the kids social life. And that is still (and probably always will be) a big worry for us and one that keeps us up at night.
This is why we’ve been wrestling with the permanent travelling idea. And now, with the latest development of the good school offer t makes the wrestling match tougher.
The idea of our kids being off with their peers all day mingling and interacting in a way that they’ve noe been able to whist we’ve moved around is very appealing. The break it will give us as parents is also an added bonus and something we could certainly do with.
And, if we turn down the place and go off travelling, it’s highly unlikely we will get this opportunity again in Liverpool.
On the other hand we love our current lifestyle so much and feel our kids have such an enriched life and a lot of people would give up anything to be in our position.
So, whatever decision we make we feel we would be taking an opportunity away from the kids.
Third world problems right?
We’re so lucky to even have this choice to make, we know that, but it still doesn’t make it easier.
But for now we want to take it one step at a time, let’s just get travelling again, we have some time to decide what to do after that, but for now we’re off on an adventure in a campervan, don’t know where we’re going, but we’ll certainly have some fun!
